Performance Fundamentals Flashcards
Implementing Rules
EU Ops - rules of operation
Performance Classes of aeroplane are based on
Type of engine
Maximum mass of aeroplane
Maximum operational passenger config
Class A - Performance Cat
Any multi engine turbojet with a MTOW greater than 5700kg and 9+ seats
Criteria set out in CS25
Class B Aircraft
Propeller Aircraft - MTOM less than 5700kg and less than 9 seats
Minimum requirements set out in CS23
Measured Performance
Average for the aeroplane achieved by experienced test pilots.
Gross Performance
The average performance for the fleet flown by line pilots using SOPs
Net Performance
Performance used to determine the safety related performance limiting masses using a safety factor
Degraded gross performance
- Climb gradient will be smaller than gross
- Descent Gradient will be greater than gross
Stopway
Area at end of runways used for abandoned takeoff
Only emergency’s only
Accelerated Stop Distance Available - ASDA
Length of the take off run plus the length of the stopway if provided
TORA + STOPWAY
Clear way
End of TORA
- 75m either side of the extended runway centreline
- extends to non frangible object
- no object = 1.5 x TORA
Area of land or water beyond runway that must be under the control of the airport authority
Balanced Field
TODA = ASDA
Clear way equals the length of the stopway
Pavement Classification Number
Load bearing strength of the pavement - if PCN lower than AC ACN cannot be used
Screen height definition
The height at the end of the take off distance required and at the beginning of the landing distance required
Flight path angle
Angle between flight path vector and the horizon
Path of the aircraft relative to the horizon
Pitch Angle
Longitudinal axis and horizon
AOA + FPA
