What is Gastritis?
Inflammation of the mucosa
Common causes of Gastritis?
NSAIDs, aspirin, alcohol, h pylori
What is mucosal atrophy?
Thinning and loss of function of the mucosal lining
What is Intestinal Metaplasia
Indicates severe gastritis (more likely to get cancer)
What is pernicious anemia
Low B12 which will cause anemia, which will then lead to chronic gastritis
What is Peptic Ulcer Disease?
Erosion if the gastric or duodenal mucosa due to acid and pepsin
What are common clinical problems from peptic ulcer disease?
acute bleeding, perforation and can mimic gastric cancer
Common causes of Gastric Ulcers?
NSAIDs, h pylori, and stress
Gastric Ulcers
Pain worsens with eating, and a higher risk of gastric cancer
duodenal ulcers?
more common, pain relieve by eating but returns, often associated with h pylori infection
Risk factors of stomach cancer?
chronic H pylori infection, chronic gastritis, smoking, high salt diet, nitrates
