Robert Curthose and his father had a bad relationship. He was the eldest of William’s children and was mocked by his father. After getting mad his father did not punish his younger brothers with severity after they pranked him Robert and his men tried to take over the castle but fled when William wanted them arrested and led his men up against his son Robert fled to Flanders (France) where William’s enemy the gave Robert a castle on the border of France. He grew furious when he found out his wife Matilda had been sending Robert money behind his back. At a battle Robert and William fought each other but when Williams horse was slain and he was defenceless on the floor Robert gave his father his own horse and ordered him to flied the battle. Matilda made them reconcile at Easter in 1080 where William again made Robert the heir to Normandy.
