pelvis and thigh muscles Flashcards
Name the 4 quadricep muscles
Rectus Femoris
Vastis lateralis
vastis medius oblique
vastus inter medius
Rectus femoris (OIA)
O:anterior inferior illiac spine
I: tibial tuberosity (via patellar and patellar ligament)
A: extend the tibiofemoral joint
flex the hip joint
vastus medialis oblique (OIA)
O: medial lip of linea aspera
I: tibial tuberosity
A: extend the tibiofemoral joint
Vastus Lateralis (OIA)
O: lateral lip of linea aspera, gluteal tuberosity, and greater trochanter
I: Tibial tuberosity via patella and patellar ligament
A: extend the tibiofemoral joint
Vastus Intermedius (OIA)
O: anterior and lateral shaft of the femur
I: tibial tuberosity via the patella and patellar ligament
A: extend the tibiofemoral joint
name the 3 hamstrings
Biceps femoris
semitendonosus
semimembranosus
Biceps Femoris (OIA)
O: long head: Ischial Tuberosity
short head: lateral lip of linea aspera
I: head of fibula
A: flex the tibiofemoral joint, laterally rotate flexed tibiofemoral joint
Long head: extends hip joint
Short head: assist to laterally rotate the hip, posteriorly tilt pelvis
Semitendonosus (OIA)
O:Ishial tuberosity
I: proximal, medial shaft of tibia at pes anserinus tendon
A: Flex the tibiofemoral joint, medially rotate the flexed knee, extend the hip, assist to medially rotate the hip , tilt the pelvis posteriorly
Semimembranosus (OIA)
O: ishial tuberosity
I: posterior aspect of the medial condyle of tibia
A: Flex the tibiofemoral joint, medially rotate the flexed knee, extend the hip, Assist to medially rotate the hip, tilt the pelvis posteriorly
Gluteus maximus (OIA)
O: Coccyx, edge of sacrum, posterior illiac crest, sacrotuberous, and sacroiliac ligaments
I: Illiotibial tract (upper fibers) and gluteal tuberosity (lower fibers)
A: All fibers: extend the hip, Laterally rotate the hip, ABduct the hip
Lower fibers: ADduct the hip
Gluteus Medius (OIA)
O:gluteal surface of the illium, between posterior and anterior gluteal lines just below illiac crest
I: Lateral aspect of linea aspera
A: All fibers: ABduct the hip
Anterior: Flex the hip, Medially rotate the hip
Posterior: Extend the ip, laterally rotate the hip
Gluteus minimus (OIA)
O: gluteal surface of the illium between the anterior and inferior gluteal lines
I: Anterior aspect of greater trochanter
A: ABduct the hip
Medially rotate the hip
Flex the hip
Name the 5 muscles in the ADductor group
ADductor magnus ADductor Longus ADductor brevis Pectineus Gracilis
action of the 5 ADductor muscles
All fibers ADduct the hip, Medially rotate the hip
All EXCEPT gracilis: assist to flex the hip
Gracilis: Flex the tibiofemoral joint, medially rotate the flexed knee
Posterior fibers of ADductor Magnus: extend the hip
ADductor Magnus (OI)
O: inferior ramus of pubis ramus of ishium, and ischial tuberosity
I: Medial lip of linea aspera and ADductor tubercle
