Pelvis Flashcards
5 bony structures of pelvis
- 2 iliac bones
- sacrum
- 2 femoral heads/necks
Female vs male sacrum
- Female: less villi, more rectangular
- Male: more triangular
Sacroilial movement: sacrum on ilium
- Flexion: nutation
- Extension: counter nutation
Iliosacral movement: ilium on sacrum
- Anterior rotation/innominate extension, inferior pubic glide
- Posterior rotation/innominate flexion, superior pubic glide
Form Closure: vleeming
passive subsystem, joint concurrency.
-Stable situation with closely fitting surfaces, no extra forces are needed to maintain the state of the system.
Force closure: vleeming
Achieved through synergistic effort of the outer units, active subsystems, lateral, anterior, posterior, deep longitudinal
Forward bend test
Palpate B PSIS, pt flex forward
+ = first/furthest to move.
false positive: lumbar dysfunction, tightness, hypermobility
Marchers test (kinetic): fowler
palpate PSIS and S2, pt marches. look for innom to drop down and out.
+ = innom doesn’t move (can elevate due to hip hike)
Leg swing
look for hard, abrupt endfeels
Innominate spring test
- On ASIS (A>P, cranial and caudal bias)
- Into flex with hip flex
- Into ext with hip ext
- Inf pubic glide (ext)
- Sup glide at IT (flex)
SI seated flexion test
Forward bend in sitting
+ = one side moves first/furthest
Sit-slump test: base and ILA
palpate base/S1 or ILA
motion component to positional testing
SI motion testing alternate position
Prone (neutral)
Prone press up (extension)
Childs pose (flexion)
Sacral spring test
- Nutation: P>A at S1
- Counternutation: P>A at apex
Stress testing pelvic girdle
- P>A
- posterior superior, and posterior inferior at ASIS
