Pelvic nerves and vessels Flashcards
sciatic nerve
L4, L5. S1- 3
Posterior compartment of thigh and branches supply all muscles of leg/foot
Gluteal nerves
superior -(L4, L5.S1) gluteal to gluteus medius and minimus
Inferior- L5, S1, S2
Nerve to obturator internus
Direct from L5- S1
Nerve to piriformis
Direct from S1-S2
Levator ani
Direct from S4 and pudendal
Coccygeus
Direct from S4, S5
Pudendal nerve
S2-S4
Where is the pudendal nerve present?
Levator ani, ext anal and ext urethral sphincter, bulbospongious, ischiocavernosus
What does the sympathetic chain do?
Rectum > decreases movement
Contracts internal anal and urethral sphincters
Relaxes bladder detrusor
Ejaculation = contract ductus deferens and seminal vesicle
Uterus= relax/ contract
Vasoconstriction of arteries
What does the parasympathetic chain do?
Pelvic splanchnic nerves S2-4
Increase motility rectum and anal canal
Relax internal anal sphincter
Bladder = contracts detrusor and inhibits contraction of internal sphincter
No effect on seminal vesicles, ductus deferens, uterus
Vasodilation of arteries= erection
Name nerves supplying penis perineum
Dorsal nerve of penis
Cavernous nerves
Origin and type of dorsal nerves of the penis
Pudendal nerve and somatic sensory and sympathetic
Origin and type of cavernous nerves
prostatic nerve plexus
parasympathetic
Nerves suplying perineal muscles in male e.g bulbospongiousus , ischiocaverniosus
Perineal branch
Origin: pudendal nerve
Type: somatic motor
Two nerves supplying perineum of scrotum
anterior scrotal
posterior scrotal
Origin and type of anterior scrotal nerve
ilioinguinal, genitofemoral
somatic sensory
Origin and type of poaterior scrotal nerve
perineal branch of pudendal
somatic sensory
