Pelvic Fractures Flashcards
What comprises the inominate bone?
ilium
ischium
pubis
what holds the components of the inominate together?
the triradiate cartilage
What forms the pelvic brim?
arcuate lines that join sacral promontory posteriorly and superior pubis anteriorly
What structural attachments are involved in the inherent stability of the pelvis?
Sacrum to ilium
pubis to pubis
What are the most important ligamentous structures in inherent stability?
sacroiliac ligamentous complex (posterior provides most of stability)
sacrotuberous ligament
What ligament is important in maintaining vertical stability?
sacrotuberous ligament
what ligament is important for maintaining rotational stability?
sacrospinous ligament
What are the attachments of the sacrotuberous ligaments?
posteriolateral aspect of the sacrum and dorsal aspect of posterior iliac spine to ischial tuberosity
what are the attachments of the sacrospinous ligament?
lateral margins of sacrum and coccyx and inserts on ischial spine
what attaches the pubis to the pubis?
symphyseal ligaments
what are the other supporting ligaments of the pelvis?
iliolumbar ligaments (L4 and L5 transverse processes to posterior iliac crest) lumbosacral ligaments (transverse process of L5 to ala of sacrum)
what is the classification system for pelvis fractures?
young and burgess
what are the 7 lines of the pelvis?
- Ilioischial line
- Iliopectineal line
- Tear drop
- Anterior wall
- Posterior wall
- acetabular roof (sorceal)
- Shenton’s line
what does the medial aspect of the tear drop represent?
quadrilateral plate
what does the lateral aspect of the tear drop represent?
condyloid fossa
