There is a lot of social pressure around alcohol. It is so embedded in our culture that most young people cannot conceive of going out and having fun without drinking. Fun has been linked to drinking alcoholic beverages and that creates pressure for everyone to do it.

However, drinking in moderation is not bad. It is a form of celebration and many people enjoy it. As long as people drink safely, there is nothing inherently wrong with it. But it becomes a negative thing when people drink excessively or feel like they have to because of peer pressure.
