A

Peel said he would crush any dissenters and Wellington said he would use the army. Peel banned a ‘monster meeting’ in Clontarf in 1843 and O’Connell was arrested. Although O’Connell threatened an armed rebellion after he was arrested it didn’t happen

Lord Heysbury replaced Lord de Grey because Lord De Grey didn’t like catholics being in high ranked positions, and Lord Heysbury allowed more Catholics into high ranking positions

A

It wasn’t successful as Catholics wanted a Catholic college, and Bishops discourage attending the colleges as they were thought to be Godless
Protestants didn’t like it because they thought it was unfair to share with the Catholics

A

Lord Devon made an inquiry about the situation of Irish agriculture and landlord tenant relations
It was depressing, saying Ireland was overpopulated, with a backward agricultural system and that the people were being exploited by their tenants

Priests were educated and knew what was happening better than most normal Irishmen

It had mant mass meetings and wanted to set up an illegal independent Irish parliament in Dublin but it never happened
