Glucagon treatment

A

In severe hypoglycaemia
<5 years - 0.5mg
>5 years - 1mg

Mild hypoglycaemia where other treatments are being refused
10mcg/year of age Or 1 unit per year of age
Min dose 20mcg or 2 units
Max dose 150mcg or 15 units

Additional double dose given if BG has not increased in 20min

Screening for which comorbid conditions are recommended?

  • Autoimmune thyroid disease (more common in girls); @ Dx and every 2 years after
  • Primary adrenal insufficiency (Addisons disease, in case of unexplained hypoglycaemia and decreasing insulin requirements)
  • Celiac Disease ( if associated symptoms occur )
