Screening Flashcards
Conversion from A1C to average BG
(A1C-6) x2 +6
Ie A1C = 7%
7-6 x2 +6 = 8mmol/L
Suggested fig and ppg target if A1C of 7 or less is not being reached with typical targets
Typical
Fbg 4-7; ppg 5-10
Reduce to
Fbg 4-5.5; ppg 5-8
Define A1C
Glycated Hemoglobing A1C is an estimate of the mean plasma glucose over the previous 8-12 weeks
The mean BG in the past 30days preceding the sample contributes 50% and the prior 90-120days contributes 10%
How often should A1C be done
Every 3 months if glycemic targets and not being met and therapy is being adjusted
Every 6 months of things are stable
I’m special cases (like pregnancy ) it can be tested more frequently than 3 months
Converting from IFCC SI units to national glycohaemoglobin standardization program (NGSP) units of %
IFCC (mmol/L) = 10.93 (NGSP) - 23.5
