Pedigree interpretation Flashcards
Sex influenced traits
Encoded by autosomal genes whose expressino is influenced by the sec of the individual (Maybe dominant for one sex, recessive for another)
Sex limited traits
Encoded by autosomal genes whose expression is isolated to one sex (but carried by both)
Genetic maternal effect
Phenotype of the offspring is determined by the genotype of the mother (Genes are still inherited from both parents)Ex
Expression can also be influenced by ___________. EG
Environmental effects- temperature sensitive allele whose product is only functional at certain temperatures
Y linked traits
Fathers pass on to all sons
Autosomal dominant
Males and females equally affected, unaffected don’t pass down, affected have at least one affected parent
Autosomal recessive
Males and females equally affected, usually skip gens, more common with incest
X linked dominant
Fathers pass on to all daughters (no sons), affected moms pass onto 1/2 of sons/ 1/2 daughters
X linked recessive
Affected fathers pass to sons, carrier moms can pass to affected sons. More common in men.
