What is the first and only vaccine given at birth
HepB.
HepB schedule:
- Birth
- 1 or 2 months
- 6-18 months
What vaccines are given at 2, 4, and/or 6 months?
DTaP - 2, 4, 6, 15-18 mo, and 4-6 yrs
HiB - 2, 4, 6, 12-15 mo (a conjugate vaccine, PRP in the HiB capsule conjugated to a protein carrier)
HepB - birth, 1-2, ___, 6-18, mo
RV1 or RV5 - 2, 4, 6 mo
PCV13, pneumococcal conjugate - 2, 4, 6, 12-15 mo (also a conjugate, both conjugates at same times)
Polio IPV, inactivated poliovirus aka, Salk, inactivated/killed with formalin
When is the influenza vaccine indicated
EVERY year, starting at 6 months old.
Nasal spray is live attenuated - unsafe for immunocompromised.
Injection is inactivated/killed - safe for immunocompromised
Who are live vaccines contraindicated in
Immunocompromised and pregnant women.
Which vaccines are given at 1 year and again at 4-6 years
MMR and Varicella
1 year,
4-6 years,
again at age 19-21
When is the HepA vaccine given
Routinely everyone is given
- 2 doses between 12 and 24 months
High risk patients are re-administered with 2 or 3 doses depending on specific vaccine.
indications:
- traveling to endemic regions
- a man who has sex with other men,
- IV drug user
- patients with hepatitis B or hepatitis C
- are being treated with clotting-factor concentrates,
work with hepatitis A-infected animals or in a hepatitis A research laboratory - expect to have close personal contact with an international adoptee from a country where hepatitis A is common
When is the Meningococcal vaccine given
Routinely at 11-12 years and again at 16 years.
Tdap schedule
Tdap at 11-12 years, then give Td only boosters every 10 years.
Administered once during each pregnancy, protects fetus against purtussis
HPV schedule
boys and girls at 11-12 years,
girls: 2 or 3 doses again at age 19-26 years
boys: 2 or 3 doses again age 19-21 years
