Regurgitation or vomiting
+/- Painless bloody stools
+/- Eczema
Milk- or Soy-protein-induced colitis
Rectal bleeding stops within 2 weeks of stopping milk/soy diet
Infant presenting with weight under 10th percentile
Small for Gestational Age (SGA)
What are infants with Small for Gestational Age (SGA) at risk for?
Polycythemia (2/2 hypoxia), hypoxia, perinatal asphyxia, meconium aspiration, hypothermia, hypoglycemia, hypocalcemia
What are risk factors for Small for Gestational Age?
Maternal: Preeclampsia, malnutrition, placental insufficiency, multi-parity or drug use
Fetal: genetics, congenital infections
What are the risk factors for vitamin D deficiency Rickets?
Exclusive breast feeding
Dark skin pigmentation
Lack of sun exposure
APGAR Scoring: first A
Appearance/Color:
Completely blue/pale = 0
***Body pink, extremities blue = 1
Completely pink = 2
APGAR Scoring: P
Pulse:
Absent = 0
< 100/min = 1
> 100/min = 2
APGAR Scoring: G
Grimace/reaction:
Absent = 0
Grimace/whimper = 1
Cough/sneeze/cry = 2
APGAR Scoring: second A
Activity/muscle tone:
Limp = 0
Some flexion = 1
Active/spontaneous = 2
APGAR Scoring: R
Respiration:
Absent = 0
Slow/irregular = 1
Regular = 2

7 & up = no intervention required
< 7 = may require further evaluation and resuscitation
