Q

APGAR

A

■ Standardized assessment to evaluate the physical condition of the newborn infant
■ Evaluates 5 components: appearance, pulse, grimace, activity, and respiration
■ Reassessed at
● 1, 5, and 10 minutes
➤ Reassess for all newborns at 1 and 5 minutes after birth (regardless of score)
➤ Reassess at 10 minutes only if the APGAR score is < 7
Or if any component of the score is 0 (even if the overall score is > 7)
➤ Note: Low scores at 10 minutes indicate neurological complications
