Pediatrics Flashcards
What are the different types of jejunoilial atresia?
I: Size mismatch (SB + atretic segment)
II: Size mismatch with space between small bowel and atretic segment
IIIa: Triangular mesenteric defect
IIIb: Apple peel atretic segment
IV: Multiple segments
At what weight cut off would you consider peritoneal drain for NEC vs laparotomy?
<1500g
At what ages should you consider orchiopexy for undescended testicles? What cancer are these patients at risk for if left untreated?
Age greater than 1; must fix before puberty.
At risk for gonadoblastoma initially but seminoma in the long run
What pyloric channel length do you see in a patient with pyloric stenosis?
> 16mm
What is an acceptable gap for fixing a long gap esophageal atresia?
2-3 vertebral bodies. Delayed repair is recommended therefore often open G tube is the first procedure
When performing a repair of esophageal atresia, what is the most likely surgical approach?
Right thoracotomy because the majority of these defects occur at the carina
What should you do in a baby with non-palpable testis?
Laparoscopy– ultrasound has only 45% sensitivity for finding the testis intraabdominally
A lateral sacral ratio greater than what will likely predict fecal continance?
> 0.7
