RSV Prevention
Palivizumab (Synagis)
**only given to high risk patients
MAX 5 doses per season (November - April)
1 IM dose per month
Who should get RSV prevention?
Preterm infants < 29 gestation
or
Preterm infants < 32 weeks with Chronic Lung Disease
or
2nd year of life and still experiencing CLD support
Bacterial Meningitis < 1 month old treatment
Cover Listeria
Ampicillin + AG or Cefotaxine
Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) infants at risk
infants born < 35 weeks gestational === lung function not developed
***treat with surfactant (Curosurf or Infasurf)
PDA treatment
NSAIDs
**why we do NOT use NSAIDS in 3rd trimester could cause early closer of PDA
When should you refer according to fever in infants?
< 3 months 100.4 or 38
3 -6 months 101 or 38.3
> 6 months 103 or 39.4
What is Croup?
Barking Cough and Stridor occuring in late autumn or winter
Treatment for Croup
Steroid (Dexamethasone)!
Rapid Epinephrine for more severe croup
Nocturnal enuresis
Bedwetting
**do not treat < 5 years old
Desmopression after 3 months of non-pharm
OTC teatment for intestine gas
simethicone
OTC treatment for pain or fever
Tylenol 10 - 15 mg/kg/dose q4-6h
Ibuprofen 5 - 10 mg/kg/dose q6-8h
***do not use if < 6 months because on no kidney development
A 5 month old baby is experiecing a fever of 100.5 degrees F. Should you refer or can this be treated OTC?
Fever not high enough for referral (101)
Treat with OTC Tylenol (baby is too young for ibuprofen)
OTC treatment for constipation
Glycerin suppository
PEG if >/= 6 months old
Age requirement for Codeine
> 12 years
18 years of tonsils out
Age requirement for Promethazine
> 2 years
