Excessive salivation noted shortly after birth or choking spells when first feeding is attempted
esophageal atresia
If a baby with esophageal atresia has a normal gas pattern in the bowel the baby has

blind pouch in the upper esophagus & a fistula b/n the lower esophagus and the tracheobronchial tree
ground-glass appearance in the lower abdomen of baby . Dx? NSIM
Meconium ileus (Cystic fibrosis) Gastrografin enema- diagnostic and therapeutic
Tx for necrotizing enterocolitis
- stope all feedings
- Broad-spectrum antibiotics
- IV fluids
- IV nutrition
An infant with abd wall erythema, air in the portal vein, intestinal pneumatosis or pneumoperitoneum. Dx? NSIM?
Necrotizing enterocolitis
Requires surgical intervention
nonbilious projectile vomiting after each feeding, palpable “olive-size” mass in the RUQ. Dx? NSIM?
- hypertrophic pyloric stenosis
- Sonogram
Tx for hypertrophic pyloric stenosis
- rehydration
- correction of hypochloremic, hypokalemic metabolic alkalosis
- Ramstedt pyloromyotomy or balloon dilation
