types of PEDS
- beta blockers
- anabolic steroids
- narcotic analgesic
- diuretics
- stimulants
- peptide hormones
beta blockers
sit on the receptor and stops the receptor from being stimulated
- slow heart rate, calms and steadies hands
- side effects: heart rate can drop very low, till it stops, low blood pressure can lead to tiredness.
- mostly used for shooting sports
anabolic steroids
produces testosterone (male hormone), helps increase muscle hypertrophy
- repairs body tissues after stress, promotes muscle growth, ability to train with less fatigue
- side effects: liver and kidney damage, females may develop male features.
- used for power sports (athletics 100 m)
narcotic analgesic
it masks pain
- reduces pain
- side effect: nausea, highly addictive, can be extremely addictive
diuretics
promote the removal of fluid from the body
- rapid weight loss, masks the use of other drugs
- side effects: dehydration, drowsiness or light headed.
stimulants
helps the body physically and mentally
- reduces tiredness, increases alertness and endurance.
