Pectoral Girdle & Upper limb Flashcards
Origins and insertions Actions
What does the supraspinatus insert into?
- Supraspinous fossa
2. Greater tubercle of humerus
What movement does the supraspinatus do?
Abduction at the shoulder.
There are no other movements.
Where does the infraspinatus insert into?
- Greater tubercle of humerus
2. Infraspinous fossa of scapula
What movement does the infraspinatus do?
- Laterally rotate the shoulder.
2. Adduct the shoulder
What movement does the teres minor do?
- Lateral roation
2. Adduct the shoulder
Where does the teres minor insert into?
- Upper two thirds of lateral boarder of scapula
2. Greater tubercle
Where does the subscapularis insert into?
- Subscapular fossa of the scapula
2. Lesser tubercle of the humerus
What movement does the subscapularis do?
- Medially rotate the shoulder
2. Stabilse
Where does the latissimus dorsi attach to?
- Inferior angle of the scapula
- Spinous processes of last six thoracic vertebrae
- Last three or four ribs
- Thoracolumbar fossa
- Posterior iliac crest
- Intertubercular groove of humerus
What movement does the latissimus dorsi do?
- Extend the shoulder
- Adduct the shoulder
- Medially rotate
Where does the teres major attach?
- Inferior angle
- lower one-third of lateral boarder of the scapula
- Lesser tubercle of humerus
What is the movement of the teres major?
- Extend the shoulder
- Adduct the shoulder
- Medially rotate the shoulder
What does the Rhomboid major do?
- Adduct the scapula
- Elevate the scapula
- Downwardly rotate the scapula
Where does the rhomboid major attach?
- Spinous processes of T2 to T5
2. Medial boarder of the scapula between the spine of the scapula and inferior angle
What does the rhomboid minor do?
- Adduct the scapula
- Elevate the scapula
- Downwardly rotate the scapula
Where does the rhomboid minor attach?
Spinous process of C7 and T1
Upper portion of medial border of the scapula, across from the spine of scapula.
What does the Levator scapulae do?
Unilaterally:
- Elevate the scapula
- Downwardly rotate the scapula
- Laterally flex the head and neck
- Rotate the head and neck at the same time
Bilaterally:
1. Extend the head and the neck
Where does the levator scapulae attach?
- Transverse processes of first through fourth cervical vertebrae
- Medial boarder of the scapula between the superior angle and superior portion of spine of scapula
What does the Pectoralis major do?
All fibres: • Adduct the shoulder • Medially rotate the shoulder Upper fibres: • Flex the shoulder • Horizontally adduct Lower fibres: • Extend the shoulder
Where does the pectoralis major attach?
- Medial half of the sternum, clavicle and cartilage of 6th through 1st ribs
- Crest of greater tubercle of the humerus
What does the pectoralis minor do?
- Depress the scapula
- Abduct the scapula
- Downwardly rotate the scapula
Where does the pectoralis minor attach?
- Third, fourth and fifth ribs
2. Medial surface of coracoid process of the scapula
What does the deltoid do?
All of the fibres: • Abduct the shoulder Anterior fibres: • Flex the shoulder • Medially rotate the shoulder • Horizontally adduct the shoulder Posterior fibres: • Extend the shoulder • Laterally rotate • Horizontally abduct
Where does the deltoid attach?
- Lateral one third of clavicle
- Acromion
- Spine of scapula
- Deltoid tuberosity
