A

What are the normal parameters for pupils?

A

2 - 4 mm in diameter in light, 4-8mm in diameter in the dark.

A

Your pupils should shrink (constrict) when a bright light is placed right in front of your eye. And widen (dilate) in the dark.

A

Accomodation is your eyes ability to change focus. Healthy pupils dilate when you look at something far away and shrink when you look at things that are near.

Now complete a PEARLA test?

A
  1. Note shape and size.
  2. Patient looks straight ahead, while you shone the light in each eye. Make sure the other is shielded.
  3. Then you will ask them to follow a pen while you move it close and and far away.
  4. Note if the pupils constricts or dilates.
