What does DRSABCD stand for?
Dangers, responsiveness, send for help, airway, breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation.
What does dangers stand for?
Potential risks and hazards
What does responsiveness stand for?
Adults: Firmly tap on the collar bone and sternum. Shout and squeeze their shoulder or arm.
Infants: gently tap or flick the infant’s foot and speak to them to see if they respond.
What does send for help stand for?
You or someone dial 111.
What does airway stand for?
Are they breathing? Any obvious airway obstructions?
- Bring your face to their face so you can hear breath noises.
- Watch if their chest rises and falls.
What does breathing stand for?
Adults and children: head tilt, chin lift.
Babies: sniff position (on back, head tilt and chin lift)
Note if you suspect a spinal injury, chin lift only.
What does cardiopulmonary resuscitation stand for?
Adults: 30 chest compressions to 2 rescue breaths.
Compressions at rate of 100 - 120 per minute.
Babies: Use two fingers, centre of chest , just below nipple line.
- 1/3 depth of the chest.
- 30 chest compressions to 2 rescue breaths
- 100-120 per minute
What does defibrillation stand for?
Follow the instructions of AED.
