What is War?
War - fighting between nations to resolve issues between them.
What are the three universal reasons for war?
- Economic
- Ideological / religious
- Power/pride/love
What are the characteristics of War?
- Large scale violent conflict
- Involves high mortality and extreme aggression
- Premeditated
Define Peace.
Peace - an absence of conflict which leads to happiness and harmony.
What is Justice?
Justice - bringing about what is right, fair, according to the law, or making up for what has been done wrong.
Define Reconciliation.
Reconciliation - when individuals or groups restore friendships after conflict.
What is Forgiveness?
Forgiveness - showing grace and mercy. Pardoning someone for what they have done.
What is a Just War?
Just war - the belief that war is just in certain circumstances
Who developed the Just War Theory?

How to remember the criteria of a Just War:
J - just cause
A -authority
M -motive
P -proportion
P -protection
E -evil
R -resort
Just cause
Just cause-those who are attacked must deserve it.

Authority-the war must be started by proper authority
“The Imam is appointed by God”
Motive
Motive-there must be a good motive
“Blessed are the peacemakers”
Proportion
Proportion-the weapons used must be in proportion

Protection
Protection-civilians must be protected

Evil
Evil-the war must be fought to promote good over evil
“Do not repay evil with evil but repay evil with good”
Resort
Resort-the war must be a last resort

Nuclear weapons, chemical weapons and biological weapons
