CONTINUOUS TRAINING
Involves working for a long and steady period of time without rest .
Benefits “long distance” athletes like cyclist/swimmers.
INTERVAL TRAINING
Physical training involving alternating stages of high (work) and low (rest) intensity.
Benefits swimmers, athletes, footballers, hockey players.
Circuit Training
Involves a series of exercises, arranged to avoid exercising the same muscle groups consecutively. Benefits; Badminton, Tennis, Boxing and Football players.
Fartlek Training
A method of training for runners where the terrain and speed are consistently changing. Benefits; Footballers, netball and hockey players.
Plyometric training
Exercises where muscles use maximum force in short intervals of time.
Benefits javelin throwers, high jumpers or rugby forwards in a scrum.
Weight training
Involves shifting weight to increase strength of muscles using a programme of exercises.
Benefits speed, strength and jumping events in athletics. Also rugby players and weight lifters.
