PD Pharm Flashcards
1
Q
Levodopa
A
- transported to CNS and is converted to dopamine
- ameliorates all PD symptoms
- causes significant peripheral dopaminergic effects
- GI upset, arrhythmias, diskinesia, on-off and wearing off phenomena, behavioral disturbances
-don’t use with nonspecific MAO-i
2
Q
Sinemet
A
Levo+carbi
3
Q
Stalevo
A
Levo+Carbi+Enta
4
Q
Pramipexole
A
Nonergot, direct dopamine agonist
- reduces symptoms of parkinsonism, smooths out fluctuarions in levodopa response
- can be used as a monotherapy for mild disease
5
Q
Ropnirole
A
Similar to pramipexole
- non ergot
- D2 agonist
6
Q
Bromocriptine
A
Ergot D2 agonist
7
Q
Apomorphine
A
Nonergot dopamine agonist, rescue tx for levodopa-induced dyskinesia
8
Q
Rasagiline
A
- inhibits MAO-B selectively
- smooths levodopa response
- more potent than selegiline
9
Q
Entacapone
A
COMT Inhibitor in periphery, reduces metabolism of levodopa and prolongs its action
10
Q
Tolcapone
A
COMT inhibitor, can penetrate CNS, hepatotox
11
Q
Benztropine
A
- antimuscarinic, basal ganglia
- reduces tremor and rigidity, little effect on bradykinesia
