What is the presentation for a pt with PCOS?
Irregular menses, infertility, hirsutism
What are the three criteria for dx PCOS and how many do you need to be diagnosed?
oligo/anovulation, polycystic ovaries on US, and clinical or biochemical signs of hyperandrogenism
You need 2/3 to give the dx.
What endocrine changes do you expect to see in PCOS?
increased LH compared to FSH
Increased androgen production from theca lutein cells which leads to an increasein testosterone
note that FSH tends to be normal in PCOS
Longstanding PCOS increases a pt’s risk for _____________________ due to the chronic anovulation resulting in prolonged exposure of the endometrium to unopposed estrogen
