Know pertinent anatomical structures of the female reproductive tract
This consists of all structures visible externally from the pubis to the perineum
Vulva
List the structures included in the vulva
labia majora, minora, mons pubis, clitoris, vestibule (which includes the urethral opening, vaginal opening, bilateral batholin gland ducts, bilateral skene’s galnds), vestibular bulb, and greater vestibular glands
What is the blood supply to the vulva?
Branches of the external and internal pudendal arteries (which are subdivisions of the hypogastric aa/internal iliac)
What innervates the vulva?
Anterior: the ilioinguinal nerves and genital branch of the genito femoral nerves (all from the PEDENDAL NERVE)
Posterior: perineal nerves and posterior cutaneous nerves of the thigh (again, from the PUDENDAL NERVE)
What ligaments provide support/help prevent uterine and pelvic organ prolapse?
Uterosacral ligaments
