PC12 Landing Gear System Flashcards
What powers gear extension and retraction?
Hydraulic extension and retraction powered by an electric hydraulic pump.
What gas is in the landing gear system accumulator?
Nitrogen
What is the purpose of the landing gear system accumulator?
Hold the gear up in case of hydraulic failure
How is the gear lowered manually (without hydraulics)?
A combination of free falling and hand pumping inside the cockpit.
What are all the parts of the gear position and warning indication system?
3 indicator lights (red/green), an aural warning, and a silencer button
How is nose wheel steering accomplished?
Mechanical linkage and differential braking
What is the purpose of the spring attached to the nose wheel?
To assist in manual extension
What provides the cushioning in all of the gear struts?
Fluid and nitrogen
Where are the main gear down and locked indicator switches located?
In the actuators
Under normal conditions how is the gear held in the retracted position?
Hydraulic pressure
Does the landing gear system have any mechanical uplocks?
NO!
How do the gear indicator lights work.
Green means that the gear is down and locked. Red means that the gear is not fully retracted.
Where are the electric hydraulic pump and nitrogen charged accumulator located?
Left wing root
Approximately how long with the nitrogen accumulator hold the gear in the retracted position?
200 minutes
Where is the hydraulic fluid sign gauge located and what is its purpose?
Left side of the cargo door. Its purpose it to check hydraulic fluid levels during preflight.
How is the gear prevented from being raised on the ground.
Weight on wheel proximity sensors activate a spring loaded solenoid that prevents movement of the handle.
What does the hydraulics caution CAS mean in the air? (HYDR)
That the hydraulic pressure is below 1800psi or the pump has been operating for more than 10 minutes
How are the main gear and nose gear held in the extended position?
The nose gear is held by an over center link and the main gear is held down by internal locks in the actuators
What bus powers the hydraulic gear pump?
The NON-ESSENTIAL bus
What else can isolate the hydraulic pump from the electrical system?
Thermal protection in the electrical power pack itself will isolate the pump, will automatically reconnect once cooled
How do you lower the gear in the case of GEN1 failure?
You must select NON-ESSENTIAL override
How do you lower the gear in case of an engine failure?
You must select NON-ESSENTIAL bus override in order to lower it under battery power or you may lower the gear with the manual pump
What does the HYDR CAS mean when on the ground?
Pump has started more than 6 times during flight
What are 4 ways to tell if the gear is not down and locked?
1) no green light
2) horn when PCL is at idle and less than 130KIAS
3) horn when more than flaps 15 and less than 130KIAS
4) landing and taxi lights off
When do you get the aural gear warning tone?
Gear up, airspeed less than 130, power below 10psi
What can happen if the right main proximity switch fails in flight or on the ground?
If the switch fails in the air you will be able to retract the gear while on the ground, if on the ground you will not be able to raise the gear handle
What indications do you get if the left and right weight on wheels switches disagree?
You get an AIR/GRND CAS and “warning, air ground” callout.
What is the danger of the AIR/GRND warning on the ground?
1) Gear may be able to be retracted
2) Stick shaker may stay on
3) Cabin may not depressurize
4) Transponder may stay in AIR mode
What kind of switches are the weight on wheels switches on the main landing gear?
Proximity switches (not squat switches)
