PBS CH.8 Flashcards
manifestation determination
a requirement that school officials consider whether a misbehavior was the result of a student’s disability before determining the consequences for that behavior
functional analysis
the process of manipulating consequence conditions and observing the effects of each condition on a student’s behavior for the purpose of identifying function(s) of challenging behavior
matching law
the assumption that the rate of any behavior is determined by the rate of reinforcement for that behavior
setting event
an event or condition that may affect behavior but is not immediately connected in time and place to the behavior in question
interim alternative educational setting (IAES)
an educational placement for students with disabilities who are not allowed to attend their regular school because of discipline problems
functional behavioral assessment (FBA)
the process of gathering information about a challenging behavior to determine the environmental influences on the behavior and the function (i.e., purpose) that the behavior may serve for the child
index card narrative format
an indirect observation method for recording antecedents and consequences related to a target behavior as it occurs throughout the day
each behavioral incident is recorded on a separate index card
behavioral efficiency
the principle that students will engage in behaviors that most reliably and easily produce the greatest amount of reinforcement
functionally equivalent
a replacement behavior that serves the same function as the unacceptable behavior
anecdotal report (A-B-C)
a simple data recording method whereby an observer uses an antecedent-behavior-consequence format to maintain a written description of events that occur during an observation period
data triangulation
during fba analysis, the process of supporting each hypothesis with multiple sources of fba data
