Patterns of Sensory Input Flashcards
False sensory perception. Can arise from any of the senses and are classified accordingly.
Hallucination
The most common type, hearing sounds that do not exist; most commonly the sounds are voices talking to or about the client.
Auditory Hallucinations
Auditory hallucinations that involve one or multiple voices telling the client to take action, sometimes to hurt him/herself or others.
Command Hallucinations
Seeing things that do not exist at all, such as a dead person or distortions of that which is seen such as seeing a monster instead of a nurse. Second most common type.
Visual Hallucinations
Smelling something that does not exist in the immediate environment such as feces or something rotting.
Olfactory Hallucinations
The false feeling of something upon the self, such as bugs or snakes crawling on one’s skin or electricity coursing through the body. (Common in alcohol withdrawal syndrome)
Tactile Hallucinations
A sense that food tastes like something else, most commonly metallic or bitter or like a specific substance like feces.
Gustatory Hallucinations
Occurs when the client is motionless, but reports feeling as if the body is moving. Occasionally, the bodily movement is something unusual such as feeling as if the body is floating above the ground.
