Patterns of Inheretance Flashcards
Simple or Complete Dominance
a form of dominance wherein the dominant allele completely masks the effect of the recessive allele in heterozygous conditions (Ex: Rr Red scale fish because the dominant allele completely masks the recessive allele)
Incomplete Dominance
a form of Gene interaction in which both alleles of a gene at a locus are partially expressed, often resulting in an intermediate or different phenotype (Ex: Rr purple scales although R is red and r is blue)
Codominance
no allele can block or mask the expression of the other allele (Ex: Rr is both red and blue scales because R is red and r is blue)
Multiple Allele
an allele of a genetic locus having more than two allelic forms within a population (Ex: ABO blood type)
Sex–linked inheritance
a trait in on the x chromosome is different in females than in males; males cannot be heterozygous for a sex-linked trait (Ex: colorblindness)
