haydn composed 12 syphonies with Solomon with his London symphonies, haydn and the Esterhazy no 45 was composed for the Esterhazy 1772

Mozart - didn’t appear frequently at public concerts, challenging time for musicians in Vienna because of the Turkish war, works written in this period was Mozart 39 - 40. wrote some for the royal court.

A

Beethoven - earns a lot of his income through publication and public, also did private performances for his patrons including princes in the holy roman empire. most influential was the arch duke Rudolph who commissioned him from 1824, Beethoven dedicated 14 compositions to Rudolph. Beethoven no 3 was dedicated to Napoleon, Eroica ‘the hero’, once Napoleon declared war Beethoven tore up his work.

Berlioz harlod in italy commissioned in 1834 by Paganini wanted work to show off his viola, wasn’t a fan but still payed for the work but declared it was too fun of rests. Berlioz symphony fantastique, he was inspired by Beethoven, poisoned himself with opium, has a Shakespearian actress in mind while he was writing this symphony (love affair).

Mendelssohn Italian symphony was inspired by his travel to italy, he was commissioned by the London philharmonic society in 1831.

franz list Faust symphony was inspired by the John van Goethes drama called Faust, written just for money by ticket sales. commissioning is gone by this time, money from concerts by the public.

Brahms - symphony no 1 was influenced by Beethoven freud theme in no 9.

Bruckner - influenced by Beethoven and Wagner, was highly religious with many of his works referencing heaven and christianity.

Mahler second symphony represents life and death similar to Beethoven no 5. minor start major end.
