16
Q

in anxious or indicated children what type of sedation do we tend to use

A

Inhalation sedation

17
Q

Which patients may have “unpredictable”metabolism

A

Patients with:
1. Impaired renal or hepatic function
2. Long term drug abuse
3. Allergy to benzodiazepine

18
Q

How can imputed renal or hepatic function lead to an unpredictable metabolism

A

Metabolism and excretion of sedation drug can be effected in a way we do not know

19
Q

Why are one term drug abusers a contraindication for IV sedation

A

Their reaction to the sedation drugs can be unpredictable

20
Q

Give examples of personality disorders that can be a contraindication for IV sedation

A
  1. Severe psychiatric disease
  2. Learning difficulties if patient can not consent to treatment
21
Q

Give examples of patients with poor veins

A
  1. Patients with excessive subcutaneous fat making the veins not visible
  2. Elderly patients with friable veins that are prone to damage
22
Q

How can we gauge if a patient has poor veins

A

Can ask how easy it is for the patient to have blood tests
