primary consideration
restraints are authorized in all instances where patients behavior may jeopardize their safety or that of crew
secondary consideration
may be used when patient lacks delusional capacity to make rational decisions and exhibits behavior that may dis-allow medical treatment

when appropriate attempt less restrictive means such as
de-escalation
patients will be restrained in the ….. position
supine , head up
as an alternative patients may also be able to be restrained in the
lateral recovery , head up position

soft restraints or handcuffs by law inforcment
patients will not be restrained in the
prone positon
restraint shall only be tight enough to
secure the extremity but without compromising neuro function
Distal function shall be checked and documented every
10 mins
Things included in documentaion
pms, grip strength, capillary refill less than 2 sec, and reason why its used
two sets of vitals are always documented but in short transports you
complete one at the receiving hospital
you must notify the
receiving hospital of the restraints
