Patient Recovery Flashcards
Things to monitor in recovery
- pulse
- Respiratory rate
3.Temp - Hydration
- Pain
Cardiopulmonary Arrest
Most common cause is overdose of inhalation agent
Signs of impending Arrest
Changes to respiratory rate, depth and pattern
Changes in pulse quality and rhythm
Unexplained changes in anaesthetic depth
Abnormal ECG rhythms
Airway Obstruction
Signs are:
-Increased respiratory effort/ noise
-Paradoxical chest wall movement
-No movement of reservoir bag
-Cyanosis
Circulatory Insufficiency
Signs:
-Weak peripheral pulses
-Pale mms
-Increased CRT
-Low measured blood pressure
-Increased heart rate (except in electrolyte disturbance)
-Poor urinary output
-Diminished bleeding
Causes of Hypothermia
Shivering is prevented under anaesthesia
Anaesthetic agents may cause peripheral vasodilation
Heat generated by skeletal activity has stopped
Visceral surfaces are exposed in abdominal surgery
Inspired anaesthetic gases are cold and dry
