Patient Prep/positioning Flashcards
Supine
When patient lies flat on their back, face up.
Prone
Patient lying on their stomach with their face to the side.
Side lying
Patient lies on their side with the top leg over the bottom leg.
Semi Fowler position
When patient lis flat on back at a 30 degree angle.
Fowler position
When a patient lies flat on their back at a 45 to 60 degree angle.
Draping
Covering a patient with a clean linen, exposing the areas of the body to be examined if possible.
T position
The position of the upper extremities when they are abducted to a 90 degree angle and internally rotated at the shoulders, with the elbows flexed to 90 degrees.
Reverse t position
Same as previous, but the the extremities are externally rotated at the shoulder to a 90 degree angle.
Preparation of the patient
Consists of dressing, transporting and positioning.
Patient examination
Patient history, a systems review, and tests/measures.
