Prefix
Usually but not always indicates location, time, number or status.
Always comes at the beginning of a word and can be identified with a hyphen (-)
Suffix
Us usually but not always indicates the procedures, condition or disease.
Always comes at the end of the word. A word is part of a suffix when it is shown with a hyphen (-)
Root words or word root
Contains the basic meaning or the term part usually, not always, indicates the involved body part. Ex root word of stomach is gastr.
Word roots and indicating color
Cyan/o means blue (lack of adequate oxygen in the blood)
Erthry/o means red blood cell
Leuk/o means white blood cell
Melan/o means black.
Poli/o means gray
Suffixes (meaning pertaining to)
- ac -al -an -ar - ary - eal -ical -ic -ine -Ior -ory -ous -tic
Suffixes meaning abnormal condition or disease
-ago -esis - ia -iasis -ion -ism -osis and -pathy

Prenatal, perinatal postnatal, abnormal, addiction, dysfunctional, eupnea, hypertension, hypotension, intersitial, intramuscular, subcoastal, supracoastal, otorhinolaryngology, otolaryngology, edema, appendicitis.
