What is the purpose of a Drain?
To remove unwanted fluids and/or liquids
What are the NHS 7 C’s?

What must you be cautious of when taking care of a patient with attachments?
- Their cannula getting pulled out during movements
- Tubing getting caught in beds, trolleys and tables
- Tubing kinking and getting blocked
What is the purpose of a Drip?
To prevent air chambers filling with fluid

Specially trained healthcare professionals
If the correct infection control measures aren’t carried out, what are examples of injuries that the patient may suffer from?
- Moisture associated skin damage

Why must the drip bag be placed above the patient’s heart?
So that gravity assists the flow of fluid (whether its blood or saline etc)
What is the purpose of a Catheter?
To drain the bladder
How are Urinary Catheters inserted?
A suprapubic nephrostomy through the urethra
Why must a Drain be kept below the “point of insertion”?
So that gravity can assist the flow of toxins/fluids/air and to prevent backflow
