What is a hip pointer?
Contusion of muscles at the anterior superior iliac spine
Causes hematoma because bone is so close to skin
What is a pulled groin?
Tear or stretch of adductor group at the pubis
What is a femoral hernia?
Loop of bowel can protrude into the femoral canal and become strangulated
Neck of hernia is below the inguinal ligament
More frequent in older females
What is a possible cause of ischemic necrosis of the head of femur?
Medial femoral circumflex artery can be damaged in a fracture of the neck of the femur “broken hip”
What is a gluteal gait?
Caused by injury to superior gluteal nerve, poliomelities, or congenital dislocation of the hip joint
Paralyzes glutues medius and minimus
What is Ischial Bursititis?
Inflamation of Ischial Bursae due to excess sitting
Also called Weaver’s Bottom
What is Piriformis syndrome?
Early branching of the sciatic nerve that occurs either in or above the prirformis
What are pulled hamstrings?
Muscles can tear or avulse part of the origin from the ischial tuberosity
What is the cause of foot drop?
Damage to the common peroneal nerve
Can be severed by fracture of fibula or damaged from tight plaster cast
