Pathogens And Communicable Disease Flashcards
What is a disease
A condition that impairs the normal functioning of an organism
What is a pathogen
An organism that causes disease
EG bacteria, viruses, fungi and protoctists
What is a communicable disease
A disease that can be spread between organisms
What are the two tiles of ways a disease can be given to something
1) Direct transmission: directly transmitted from one organism to another
EG: droplet infection
2) Indirect Transmission : transmission through an intermediate such as water, food or a vector organism (EG mosquito is a vector for malaria)
Factors that can affect transmission
1) living conditions- overcrowding
2) social factors -the area where a person lives, health care and education
3) Climate- climate can affect spread of disease
