PATCH CLAMP, GABA RECEPTORS, GLUTAMATE RECEPTORS Flashcards
1
Q
What are GABA receptors?
A
Receptors that bind to GABA - the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the CNS
2
Q
What are the two types of GABA receptors?
A
GABA A - ligand gated ion channels
GABA B - G protein coupled receptors
3
Q
Describe the GABA A receptor
A
- They are coupled with benzodiazepine receptors
- They are ligand gated Cl- channels
- Diazepam and lorazepam are agonists for these receptors and they increase the affinity of the GABA binding site which increases the channel opening
4
Q
What is an inverse agonist of benzodiazepine?
A
- Beta Carbolines
5
Q
What is an antagonist of benzodiazapine?
A
Flumazenil
6
Q
Describe glutamate gated chloride receptors
A
- 5 subunits
- Important target for anti-parasitic drugs
