Pasta is made of what?
by combining water with semolina, made from durum flour, which is especially grown for pasta. It can also be made from whole-wheat flour- it will be higher in nutrients and fiber than standard pasta but it has a tougher texture and stronger taste
Pasta manufactured are enriched with what?
Vitamins B and iron
Why durum wheat?
the protein in durum wheat flour gives pasta its elasticity and helps it maintain its shape during cooking. Durum wheat is higher in caratenoid pigments, which contribute to pasta’s rich, golden color.
What is semolina?
darker and coarser than all purpose flour, has a more earthy aroma, high protein and gluten content
How is pasta formed?
by placing the freshly made pasta dough in a cylinder and forcing it through holes in small discs (dies)

How do you cook pasta?
Easy to prepare by boiling or simmering -> boiling is preferred
When cooked most pastas expand to 2 or 3 times their original size
Properly prepared pasta is not excessively sticky, and once is done, it is drained and ready to serve
Why you need to avoid rinsing pasta?
Because the sauce is not gong to stick
Can you cook pasta in the microwave?
yes in small portions
How do you cook pasta in the microwave?
Measure out the amount of dry pasta you want to cook into a microwave-safe bowl
Cover it with water and coo on high for about 5 min
Stir the pasta and give one piece a bite to see how cooked it is
Continue cooking for about 5 min more -> check for doneness every couple of minutes
Drain the excess water
