Is Rhd +ve a dominant or a recessive gene?
Dominant so at least one parent need to be Rh +ve for the child to have Rh +ve
When would you give Anti-D and how many doses
- Not needed if both parents are Rh-ve
- Advised when mother is Rh-ve and father is RH +ve
- First dose is administered at 28 weeks
- Second dose should be administered within 72 hours of birth if baby is Rh+ve
- Also indicated post first trimester loss
How do we determine the cause of a fever post-surgically
0-2 hours: most likely transfusion related
24hrs: Hospital acquired infection
Delayed/ 1 week: surgical site infection
What happens if you have megaloblastic, microcytic anaemia but you start therapy for folate deficiency without checking whether it is due to folate/ B12 deficiency
Might have B12
Need IV B12 to prevent/ correct neurological damage
