Define substance abuse
Substance abuse refers to the harmful or hazardous use of psychoactive substances, including alcohol and illicit drugs.

What does a stimulant do and state an example
Makes you feel more alert/energetic
eg. tobacco, cocaine
What does a hallucinogen do and state an example
Described as mind altering - change perceptions, mood and stress
eg. LSD and magic mushrooms
What does a depressant do and state an example
Makes you feel relaxed
eg. alcohol, heroin

A cluster of physiological, behavioural, and cognitive phenomena in which the use of a substance or a class of substances takes on a much higher priority for a given individual than other behaviours that once had greater value
