parts of the cell and microscopy Flashcards
Eukaryotic cells
have a nucleus eg. plant cells and animal cells
Prokaryotic cells
have no nucleus eg. bacterial cells
Animal cells
- nucleus. -cell membrane. -ribosomes. -mitochondria. -cytoplasm.
Plant cells
-nucleus. -cell membrane. -cell wall. -vacuole. -ribosomes. -cytoplasm. -chloroplasts. -mitochondria.
Bacterial cells
-cytoplasm. -cell wall. -cell membrane. -bacterial DNA loop. -plasmid DNA rings.
Function of: Nucleus
contains DNA. controls the cell.
Function of: Cytoplasm
chemical reactions take place, controlled by enzymes.
Function of: Cell membrane
controls what enters and leaves the cell.
Function of: Mitochondria
Aerobic respiration rakes place. provides energy.
Function of: Ribosomes
protein synthesis occurs.
Function of: Cell wall
protects and strengthens the cell.
Function: chloroplasts
contains chlorophyll which absorbs sunlight for photosynthesis to take place.
Function of: vacuole
contains waste products.
Sperm cell
fertilises the egg. long tail to swim quickly, lots of mitochondria to produce energy for movement.
Nerve cell
carries electrical signals. long to carry signals long distances, branched connections to connect to other nerve cells around the body.
