Parts of the cell Flashcards
Identify the basic parts of a cell
Cell membrane
Very thin transparent sheet that holds everything inside and controls what comes in and out
Cell wall
Only found in plants, thick and strong. Provides strength for the plant.
Nucleus
Usually a small dark circular spot. The control center for the cell. Contains our genes.
Cytoplasm
Watery jelly like substance which fills most of the cell. Contains nutrients and makes chemicals.
Vacuole
Water filled bubble that helps to keep the cell firm.
Chloroplasts
Small green structures found only in the green parts of plants. They make food for the plant.
Mitochondria
Small bean shaped structures in the cytoplasm. Makes energy for the cell through respiration.
What are the differences between a Plant cell and Animal cell?
What is the Cell theory?
3 parts
- All organisms are composed of 1 or more cells
- The cell is the basic unit of structure and organization in organisms
- All cells come from pre-existing cells
