Eye piece lens
The eye pieces are the lenses at the top that the viewer looks through.
Function: Magnifies specimen
Tube
Where the eye pieces are dropped in.
Function: The tube connects the eye pieces to the objective lenses.
Base
The bottom of the microscope
Function: what the microscope stands on
Arm
Structural element
Function: Connects the head of the microscope to the base.
Stage with clips.
The flat platform that supports the sides. Stage clips hold the slides in place. You can move the stage up and down with the adjustment knobs.
Objective lens
Usually you will find 3 or 4 of them on a microscope.
Function: Magnifies Specimen
Diaphragm
Typically located beneath the stage.
Function: Controls the amount of light passing through the specimen.
Nosepiece
Holds the objective lenses
Light source
Usually located beneath the stage.
Function: Shines light into the tube through the specimen.
Coarse adjustment knob
Moves the tube up or down over large distances.
Fine adjustment knob
Moves the tube slightly to perfect focus.
