Parts of the Brain Flashcards
Cerebral Cortex
the outermost part of the brain
frontal lobe
decision-making, planning, problem-solving, mental processes
parietal lobe
sense of touch, movement, action, and location (involuntary muscle movement)
temporal lobe
hearing, learning
occipital lobe
vision
Corpus Callosum
connects the 2 hemispheres of the brain
motor cortex
helps plan and control our movements
brainstem
breathing, heart rate, survival functions (involuntary functions)
sensory cortex
helps us understand and use sensory info
cerebellum
involuntary balance and motor control
amygdala
involved with emotional response
thalamus
integrates motor and sensory processing in the cortex
hypothalamus
links the nervous system to the endocrine system (regulates hormones, hunger, thirst, etc.)
hippocampus
involved in episodic and spatial memory processing
