a person, place or thing. Ex. Cat, fish, rain, McDonald’s, Mexico, home.
Noun
a word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence. Ex. Go, want, walk, happen
Verb
particular person, place or thing. Ex. Wendy’s, Toronto, Kleenex.
Proper noun
general word (person, place or thing) Ex. Resturant, city, tissue.
Common noun
a word that describes or modifies a noun (modify = to make its meaning more specific) Ex. Big, green, friendly, my, many.
Adjective
a word or group of words that describes or modifies a verb or adjective; gives more information about the time, manner and place in which something happens. Ex. Suddenly, quickly, right away, rarely, almost, just, there.
Adverb
a word that takes the place of a noun. Ex. She, I, they, who, him, me.
Pronoun
words that function as connectors between words, phrases, or clause. Ex. And, but, for, nor, yet, while, until, although. (The fanboys consist of seven words: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so.)
Conjunction
a word that sits before a noun or pronoun to show the noun’s relationship to other words in the sentence. Ex. In, on, around, between, above, near, underneath, alongside, of, for.
