Parts of a Plant Cell Flashcards
What are plant cells?
Plant cells are eukaryotic cells or cells with membrane bound nucleus. Generally, plant cells are larger than animal cells and are mostly similar in size and are rectangular or cube shaped. Plant cells are similar to animal cells in being eukaryotic and they have similar cell organelles.
It is the outermost covering of the plant cell. It is a main feature of plant cell.
Cell wall
It also called as the plasma membrane and is the outer lining of the cell inside the cell wall.
Cell membrane
It is control center of the cell. It is a membrane bound structure which contains the hereditary material of the cell- the DNA.
Nucleus
It is a plastid with green pigment chlorophyll. it traps light energy and converts it to chemical energy by the process of photosynthesis.
Chloroplast
Carry out cellular respiration and provide energy to the cells.
Mitochondria
Temporary storage center of the the cell.
Vacuoles
It is the unit where proteins are sorted and packed.
Golgi body
These are structures that assemble proteins.
Ribosomes
It is a membrane-covered organelle that transports cell materials.
Endoplasmic Reticulum (Endoplasmic Reticula)
Composed of amino acids and sugars. It provides structure and protection to the cell wall against bacteria.
Peptidoglycan
It serves as the cell’s structural support against fungi.
Chitin
Extension of the cell. It is a hair-forming cell on the epidermis of a plant root.
Root hairs
Found inside of the chloroplast. It is a colorless fluid surrounded by grana (light-dependent reactions take place here).
Stroma
Flattened sacs inside a chloroplast bounded by pigmented membranes on which the light reactions of photosynthesis take place, and arranged in stacks or grana.
Thylakoids
